Standard Operating Procedures
for the Glencoe Ski Team
Attendance at practice and meetings
- Ski team must be a priority. Attendance at practices and meets
is required.
- There will occasionally be optional practices and races
where participation is encouraged.
- If you cannot attend a practice or training, you are required to
inform one of the coaches. Telling a friend or team mate to pass on your
excuse is insufficient. We prefer that you talk directly with the coach
regarding attendance issues. However, if this is infeasible, e-mail or a
note will suffice.
- Racers will not be penalized for excused absences.
- Important family matters take priority over ski team.
- School takes priority over ski team. However, students must take
responsibility for their schedule. Procrastinating a project, then
expecting to miss practice at the last minute is unacceptable.
- We encourage students to have diverse interests and become involved
in many activities. We also understand there will be occasional
schedule conflicts. These will be excused as long as this
doesn't interfere with participation on the ski team.
- Do not leave practice early without notifying a coach.
- Attendance at team fundraisers by all team members is mandatory.
Safety Guidelines
- Racers must always wear helmets when we are running gates.
- The "buddy system" applies at all times while on the mountain
with the team. Always ski with at least one other teammate during
free skiing.
- When we are running in dry-land, take note of who is ahead and
behind you. Stay on the route indicated by the coach.
- Keep your equipment in proper repair.
- Athletes are to inform the coach of any injury or condition which
might prevent them from participating in training activities.
Players Language and Behavior
- No crude or vulgar language is allowed.
- Swearing is grounds for disqualification from a race according to
OISRA rules. Therefore, students exhibiting language problems at
practice will not race varsity as it puts the team at risk.
- Substance abuse is not allowed by OISRA, OSAA, and Hillsboro
School District guidelines. Abuse will be reported to the school
administrators and dismissal from the team.
Responsibilities
- Each racer will take turns carrying gates, helping set training
courses, and cleaning up the bus.
- Every skier will slip the course and help pull gates at the end
of training unless excused by the coaches.
- All racers and 8th graders will help shag coats on
race days.
Dress Code
- No gaper gaps allowed ;-)
- Members will remain properly attired at all times during practice
and while traveling on the bus.
Behavior for Travel
- When traveling to the mountain on Thursdays by bus, we enforce a
quiet study time from highway 26 until we pass at McDonald's in
Sandy. We strongly encourage the students to work on homework
during this time.
- On Saturdays quiet time is enforce from when we leave the bus until
15 minutes before arriving at our destination. We strongly urge the
students to sleep so they will not be tired for races and
trainings. Bringing a blanket and pillow makes the bus ride more
pleasant.
- Racers are responsible to keep the bus clean. While there is some
sweeping and cleanup required after transportation, large messes
left by an individual are unacceptable. Throwing trash or food is not
tolerated.
- If you do not travel with the team, the parent or driver over 21 must
okay this with a coach.
Misbehavior
- Remember that your behavior shapes the image of the team and of
Glencoe High School.
- Discipline will be handled on an individual basis, and will range
from helping with extra team tasks, dropping in seed, or dismissal
from the program.
